As Sophie Honeywell inches toward forty, she wonders if she will ever be able to land the right man so that she can finally start a family. Her refusal of one seemingly perfect proposal years earlier, seemed to seal her fate of loneliness. But after surprisingly inheriting the home of her would-be husband’s aunt, Sophie trades a fast-paced city life for the touristy attraction of Scribbly Gum Island. Here, she falls for a man, but the fact that he’s married to another women takes him entirely off the menu.

The inheritance of Aunt Connie’s house comes with the rumor that this island also holds a perfect man for Sophie. Her search reveals all the dysfunction of a family that, in spite of itself, really does make the wrong decisions for all the right reasons. The clever schemes of Thomas’ family provide an intricate tale of charming wit and family secrets.

This fast paced story had me hooked from the first page. Moriarty’s characters were real on the page and I highly recommend this novel if you’d like to peek in on the real dynamics of what a family is supposed to look like. I thoroughly enjoyed this read, and I will look for more of this author’s books.
